Recently appointed Federal Minister for Women’s Economic Security Senator Jane Hume has confirmed Government priorities around boosting female workforce participation and stated that the child care subsidy system is an area of current focus for her department.

In an exclusive reported by the AFR Weekend Ms Hume said, “We know a key to improving women’s economic security is getting more women into the workforce.”

“There’s a number of barriers to women fully participating in the workforce and childcare is one of them; making sure our childcare subsidy system is appropriately calibrated is something we’re looking at.”

The comments come after a number of high profile associations and bodies such as the Business Council of Australia have called for changes to the CCS system to bolster women’s economic security through making childcare more affordable and accessible.

“We know childcare can become unwieldy for people who have potentially more than one child, and that’s something, I think, we’re turning our minds to.” Ms Hume said.

As yet no specific policy changes have been confirmed by Ms Hume or any other Federal Minister although multiple mainstream media outlets including the Sydney Morning Herald here and Skynews here have speculated that lifting the maximum child care subsidy cap from 85 per cent to 95 per cent and removing the annual cap of $10,560 are being considered but the scale of changes are not as large as Labor’s Budget Response announced in October 2020.

Any changes would have a positive impact across the different socio economic stratas in Australia with particular benefit being felt by lower socio economic areas in which community focused services are located and more affluent communities which have been restricted by the annual cap rates due to higher fees.

The Federal Budget 2021/22 is to be handed down to Parliament on 11 May 2021 with details of the Budget to be found here on Budget night.

About Early Education

Early Education Holdings* (EEH) is a newly established partnership with an ambitious vision to acquire and develop local, community focused childcare centres across the Eastern seaboard of Australia. Childcare centres are a stable, government backed business funded by both Federal and Sate & Territory governments, and with the outbreak of COVID-19 contributing to the recent fall in attendence across the sector, EEH has identified the neglected and highly fragmented mid-sized market (40-75 places) as ripe with opportunity.

EEH would like to invite investors to participate in co-owning TWO established childcare centres in urban NSW, which represents a foundational milestone and the commencement of the EEH growth journey.

EEH’s Executed Team is powered by HEVEN, a business management company that makes SME ownership a reality for individuals looking for a low touch approach to income and portfolio growth. Founded in 2016 by one of the partners, HEVEN takes an industry-agnostic approach and specialises in sourcing, acquiring and managing government funded and high consumer demand SMEs, with an established revenue, across Australia.
