KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • LifeArt’s paper-based coffins help reduce pollutants typically used in 98 percent of coffins.
  • The process of cremation with a standard coffin emits similar levels of greenhouse gases into the environment as a car travelling 3,650 km.
  • LifeArt has changed the eco-coffin industry by creating affordable, paper-based coffins that replicate the look and low cost of chipboard coffins.

Britain could greatly reduce pollution caused by cremations with the help of an innovative, environment-friendly company called LifeArt. LifeArt’s vision is to manufacture paper-based coffins with ‘enviroboard’ and help reduce pollutants typically used in 98 percent of coffins.

Studies show that making the switch from coffins containing pollutants to a paper-based product can significantly reduce the emission of toxic particles and greenhouse gasses by up to 97 percent.

The process of cremation with a standard coffin emits similar levels of greenhouse gases into the environment as a car travelling 3,650 km. These pollutants are posing a huge threat to air quality for those who live near crematoriums. The simplest way to cut down pollutants is to remove pollutants from the coffin itself. Although there have been paper-based coffins on the market for years, the industry never saw much traction because these products did not successfully mimic the look of a typical, chipboard coffin. LifeArt has changed the eco-coffin industry by creating affordable, paper-based coffins that replicate the look and low cost of chipboard coffins.

In addition to cutting down greenhouse gas emissions, LifeArt’s state-of-the-art coffins don’t require a large amount of wood.  On average, about 330,000 trees are used each year to produce chipboard coffins. Paper coffins require 80 percent fewer trees, which would save 273,000 trees every year.
