Tech Project Group strengthens board with Chairman of Sirius Minerals and Torrus Capital and former Telstra International executive

Russell Scrimshaw, Chairman:

Mr Scrimshaw is one of Australia’s most respected business leaders having held executive positions at Fortescue Metals Group where he was a founding Executive Director and Deputy CEO, and at Australia’s largest bank, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia as Group Executive for Technology, Operations and Procurement.

Mr Scrimshaw currently serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Sirius Minerals Plc, the Executive Chairman of Torrus Capital P/L, Australian Philanthropic Fund; the Scrimshaw Foundation, Scrimshaw Nominees P/L and is a non-executive Board member of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and the Chairman of the Garvan Research Foundation.

Previously, roles included senior executive positions at Optus Communications, Alcatel Australia, IBM, Telecom New Zealand Australia Pty Ltd and Amdahl Corporation, a then leading manufacturer of large-scale data-processing systems and software.

Mr Scrimshaw brings a wealth of technology and telco experience to the Tech Project Board that will prove invaluable as the Company negotiates strategic partnerships to expedite the Company’s national and international expansion.

Steve Hogben, CTO and interim CEO:

Mr Hogben brings a broad background and experience in technology and product management having managed his own consulting business for a number of years, with clients including Telstra, Optus, Roadshow, Nine Network, and SkyNZ. Mr Hogben managed carrier products at Optus Communications, and new media OTT products at Quickflix, Video Ezy and Blockbuster. As a Vice President level consultant at Gartner, he advised various international and Australian clients on market and business strategies with regard to telecommunications, media and ICT products. He has worked in senior technology and management roles for various NSW Health entities, Lightbox (Spark Ventures NZ), and investment companies, including Macquarie Technology Fund.

Mr Hogben has Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from UNSW and over 20 years engineering management experience in OTC (Telstra International) and Optus, and an additional 15 years’ experience in new media OTT products throughout Australia and Asia Pacific. His telecommunications experience has focused on the design, build, operation and performance of new and legacy networks and facilities, including the rollout of mobile network and switch facilities in Optus working with foundation shareholders (both Cable and Wireless, and BellSouth). In addition, Mr Hogben brings significant engineering management experience from projects with ISPs and carriers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.

He has recruited and managed teams engaged in engineering projects and product development/management for Optus and other companies ranging from small groups to teams of over 1900 staff, located nationally, on major national telecommunications infrastructure projects such Optus Mobile Network, and Optus National fibre and switching network. Mr Hogben is also responsible for the formation and several years of operation of the entire product development function at Optus.
